A Cool Little Packet
You had ice on your hurting neck, so I crept softly near the edge of the low nightstand where the chill seemed to drift down. Tucked on a folded linen cloth lay a spare gel pack wrapped in blue fabric. I stopped and held completely still, watching to see if a drop would slide down its side. It stayed quiet. Slowly, I reached out both hands and pressed my palms against the plush outer cover. It felt soothingly cold and heavy, squishing softly beneath my vinyl fingers like firm jelly. A tiny frosty mist seemed to hush against my skin. I rested there quietly, keeping company with the cold.
