First Step on Stone
The stillness broke. A strange warmth surged through my limbs, and I found my boots gripping the cool, pale surface below. Before me stood a towering grey disc of rough-hewn stone. I lifted one foot forward, taking a firm, deliberate stride. Reaching out with my left hand, my fingers pressed against the chiseled rim of the stone slab. It was solid, cold, and real. I took a steady breath, stood tall against its protective curve, and realized I am awake to face whatever lies ahead.
