Rooftop View from the Bookshelf
I slipped past the lobby door and trotted down the block until I reached the neighborhood's painted wooden street library. The little door was cracked open just wide enough for an easy squeeze! Inside, giant books stood packed like colorful high-rises. Right in the middle, a thick woven ribbon bookmark dangled down from the top edge of a hardcover volume. I caught the textured cloth with both paws, marched my sneakers straight up the ribbed paper spine, and hauled myself onto the flat gilded top. Lounging against the sturdy cloth binding with my paws tucked deep into my hoodie, I claimed the best quiet perch on the entire street.
