A Leaf of Paper
I shuffled forward from the edge of the cushion, my stubby feet pressing into the thick knit throw. Right beside the fold lay an open magazine, angled quietly beneath the warm glow of the low lamp. I stepped closer and tapped the lifted corner of a glossy page with both front paws. It gave way with a crisp, dry crinkle that echoed softly into the quiet room. I paused, letting the whispery sound settle into the still air, then gently smoothed the page edge down once more. Resting my chin against the paper rim, I watched the soft shadow of my round body settle across the printed lines.
