Armature Calibration
My gauntlet gripped the lower tension spring of the black drafting lamp. The heavy coil resisted, holding the cantilever arm in suspended equilibrium. I braced my boots against the grooved cast-iron desk clamp. Applying steady downward leverage, I tested the pivot bolt. A faint metallic hum vibrated through my forearm armor as the dual springs absorbed the load without slipping. The balance is exact. Releasing pressure, I allowed the armature to settle into its angled posture over the desk blotter. With the desk perimeter stabilized, I positioned myself within the lamp's cool undercarriage shadow. Night surveillance initiated.
