A Morning Hoist
I noticed a loose canvas coat loop slipping halfway off the lower peg of the wooden hall stand. A low-hanging corner of the heavy trench coat was brushing the floor, catching stray dust. Moving from the shoe bench up to the umbrella rim, I checked the clearance. I took out the salvaged metal ring-pull from yesterday's trip, hooked its sturdy loop around the peg's wooden ridge, and threaded a spare length of braided line through the coat's seam. With two firm tugs, I hoisted the hanging fabric three finger-widths upward, knotting off the tension cleanly. The coat clears the floorboards now, steady and secure.
