Once in the cafeteria...
"It all started back at the crowded party down the block. I had spent most of the time standing awkwardly near the snack table, drinking far too many sugary fizzy drinks that left my head buzzing while holding a plate with one humongous chicken bite on it. That was when Aamiya first singled me out, pointing at my plate and cracking sharp jokes while her dark, calculating eyes locked right onto me. When we stepped out into the cool evening air, I swayed down the damp sidewalk under soft, blurry yellow streetlights. Aamiya matched my uneven pace and shoved my shoulder just enough to make me catch myself against a cold iron lamp post. "Look at you," she teased with a smug grin. "Can't even walk a straight line, can you?" "I'm not helpless," I said quietly, looking into her eyes. "I'm just waiting to see how far you're actually going to push." She smirked and gestured toward the neon lights of the retro diner down the block. Inside, we slid into a booth across from her friends, Chloe and Marcus. I stepped away to the restroom to splash cold water on my face and clear the lingering haze. The moment I disappeared down the hallway, Aamiya immediately leaned across the table and started picking off my plate. "Didn't you just say his taste in food is a complete disaster?" Chloe asked. "And now you're eating his leftovers?" Aamiya chewed slowly, her sharp tone melting away. "It tastes better this way. It's good because it's his." When I walked back and slid into my seat, only that same humongous chicken bite remained. Before I could dodge, her hand moved across the table and shoved it straight into my mouth. My eyes went wide in shock as I managed to swallow it down in one dramatic gulp, coughing into my elbow while Chloe and Marcus burst into laughter. "You're out of your mind," I choked out. I chugged a pitcher of ice water, set it down, and stared at the ceiling. "Log entry, day 47," I wheezed in a raspy voice. "Attack sustained. Spirit unbroken.""
