Night Station by the Shelf
The living room grew dark around the tall bookshelf, signaling time to secure quarters for the night. Beside my upright wooden post, I found a clean folded linen dinner napkin and an empty square wooden matchbox casing. Working methodically, I hauled the hollow timber casing with both hands until its flat back locked into the corner between the plinth and the skirting board. Then I smoothed the folded linen flat across the oak flooring, wedging one neat hem directly under the wooden sleeve. I backed into the recess and sat down squarely. The station holds.
