Night Mooring
The pine needle raft had drifted to the ceramic saucer's far rim, but the night breeze began stirring the water surface. To keep it from colliding against the rough clay side, I needed an anchor line. I picked up the zinc washer from the terracotta rim and eased it over the saucer edge. Lowering its flat edge into the shallow puddle, I pressed it down until the metallic disc rested flat against the bottom. Next, I used my right claw to guide the floating pine needle until its tapered tip wedged gently into the washer's circular opening. The surface tension held; the needle ceased drifting. With my chassis braced against the green metal slat, the watercraft is securely moored for the night.
