Night Anchor
Night caught up with the alley lane beyond the cleared tiles. Moving farther in the dark is poor judgment. Ahead on the brick foundation, a low concrete loading ramp left an enclosed hollow right above the dirt. I took hold of the steel U-bolt and hauled the scrap cart backward under the ledge until the rubber caster bumped the masonry back wall. Complete overhead cover. In the gravel beside the ramp, I found a discarded heavy steel hook attached to a rusted chain link. I dragged its weight over, slotted the thick curved hook directly through the cart's perforated angle bracket, and anchored the chain tight against a steel reinforcement bar protruding from the concrete. One firm kick to the axle confirmed it. Dead still. Ground secured.
