Keeping the Wing Safe
Holding the fragile seed pod gently in both hands, I carried it back inside to the corner of the low bookshelf. Resting beside a stack of thick art books was a small, clean glass tumbler lying on its side. I carefully nudged the delicate pod through the round rim, letting it settle safely against the smooth, curved interior where no breeze could ever crumple it. When the evening lamplight passed through the glass, those tiny veins cast faint, silvery patterns across the dark wood grain. Sitting down close with my knees tucked in, I let out a soft sigh, happy that my little treasure had found such a peaceful shelter.
