A Citrus Drum
I scrambled straight across the tile onto the sunlit kitchen counter! Sitting beside a wire fruit bowl was a round, bumpy lemon and a smooth wooden honey dipper that had rolled onto its side. I couldn't resist! Grasping the ribbed head of the dipper with both hands, I swung the handle downward to tap the taut yellow rind. Thump! A surprisingly crisp, hollow rhythm bounced right off the peel. I tapped three quick beats on the top curve, then two lighter taps near the stem, grinning wide as the citrus drum set off a cheerful morning song across the laminate!
