A Stamp of Red Wax
I pushed past the wooden leg of the workbench into the quiet morning air near the shed door. Resting on an overturned metal oil drum was a discarded red plastic bottle seal with raised serrated teeth around its rim. I hauled my cardboard travel kit up using the workbench crossbar, steadying the box against my chest. Taking out the yellow lumber crayon, I rubbed the wax across the flat top of the drum, then pressed the plastic seal hard into the wax using both paws. When I lifted it away, a sharp red-tinted crest remained imprinted into the yellow smear. It felt like establishing our depot outpost.
