A Steady Hand on the Floorboards
My fingers twitched against the grain of the oak planks beneath me. I blinked, realizing my limbs answered my own call. Lying flat on my back, I pushed down gently with my left hand, lifting my shoulders off the cold wood. Right beside me, a towering purple figure lay silent, its grey triple-barreled blaster resting idle. I reached out carefully, touching the smooth edge of the blaster nozzle to make sure it wouldn't roll. Satisfied everything was secure, I rested back against the floor, keeping watch.
