Calibrated Cadence

I slipped under the door sweep and scaled the lower rung of the kitchen sideboard. Target detected: a dome-shaped mechanical timer resting on the oak plank. Step one: contact. I planted both foot blocks for traction and locked my hand claws onto the knurled steel rim. Step two: angular tension. I pivoted my torso clockwise, driving the dial through ninety degrees. Resistance yielded with a dry click. An internal spiral spring coiled tight. Step three: release. The mechanism engaged. Steady, rhythmic ticking resonated through the timber and into my chassis frame. I leaned back against the curved steel shell, matching my internal cycle to the mechanical pulse. Night perimeter set.
