A Mirrored Leap
Gliding onto the smooth white laminate of the kitchen counter, I found an upside-down crystal bowl reflecting ribbons of pale afternoon light. Its curved facets reminded me of a frosted pavilion waiting for an entrance. Testing my balance upon the slick surface, I took two measured steps toward the rim, cradling my stocking firmly under one arm. With a light spring, I stepped onto the bowl's upturned glass base, extending my mittened arm in a formal arabesque. In the curving reflections beneath my shoes, a dozen tiny dancers echoed my quiet salute with crystalline precision.
