Sunbeam Prisms
I vaulted from the kitchen counter up onto the sun-warmed painted windowsill. Resting right in the noon glare was a heavy, faceted glass crystal pendant tied to a red silk ribbon. Naturally, I grabbed the cord with both hands, hauled the glass stone upright, and wedged its faceted base against a small brass thumbtack so it tilted straight toward the light. Instantly, dazzling rainbow beams splashed across the white woodwork and cupboard faces. Tilting my chin up, I watched a brilliant crimson spark lock dead-center on the ceiling. A private light show, calibrated in seconds.
