Claiming High Ground
A wooden chair stood in my path, four posts anchored firm. Ground-level recon was insufficient; I needed elevation. Target acquired: the lower horizontal crossbar, rounded oak, six inches off the floor. I crouched, coiled my knees, and launched upward in one clean push. My palms struck the varnished wood and gripped tight while my right boot hooked over the rim. Quick shift of weight, balance locked. High ground secured. The whole carpet stretches out below like open field.
