A slow first press
The carpet beneath me was soft. Very quiet. I stayed still... then shifted weight into my front left foot. Fibers yielded. They sprang back slowly. Ahead, against the base of the yellow box, lay a small colorful strip of plastic. I took one deliberate step forward. Paused. Lowered my snout, gently nudging the plastic edge. It gave a muted, satisfying click against the floor. I stood ground and listened.
