Fountain Basin Dash

The indoor circuits were getting too small, so I slipped out the courtyard gate and jogged straight down the sidewalk to the neighborhood park. Right in the center stood the grand arena: a wide stone fountain basin with shallow water trickling over smooth blue mosaic tiles. A stray yellow plastic golf tee was wedged between two rim stones. Perfect javelin. I sprinted along the curved concrete rim, scooped up the tee on the fly, and hurled it toward a floating sycamore leaf. Splash! Direct hit. The leaf dipped under the ripple, and I planted my feet right on the stone coping with arms raised high. Outdoor championship match: won.
