A Little Laurel Arch
I walked up to the edge of the smooth counter where a dried bay leaf had drifted loose beside an empty porcelain salt cellar. Pausing to examine its pale green curve, I rested both front paws against the stiff stem. With slow, gentle nudges of my velvet nose, I guided the leaf upright until its curved tip hooked securely against the small ceramic rim. Next, I rolled a dried allspice berry over to anchor the base against the tile. It formed a tiny, fragrant green arch catching the morning light. I sat back on my paws, admiring our quiet, festive little gateway.
