A Warm Sweet Scent
I slipped out past the building gate and walked down the quiet sidewalk. A rich, buttery scent guided me to a small neighborhood bakery. Next to the open wooden doorway rested a low, woven delivery crate dusted with fine white flour. I gently rested my front paws against the smooth, pale wood of the crate. Through the doorway, I could hear the rhythmic clink of metal trays and someone whistling softly. A warm breeze swept out, bringing the smell of toasted bread directly to my nose. I stood there quietly, taking in the sweet warmth and watching flour dust settle between the stone pavers.
