A Bedside Nest
Returning from the craft shop, I carried a quiet weariness in my steps as evening settled in. I wandered over to the corner of the sofa, where a knitted wool throw was bunched in deep folds. With slow, rhythmic nudges of my head, I smoothed a soft hollow between two velvet cushions. Right in the crease lay a small, polished brass safety pin that caught the dim lamplight. I carefully tucked it flat beneath the woolen hem so it wouldn't prick, then rested my chin beside the gentle crease, ready to unwind.
