A Soft Landing
My paws were ready for a rest after waddling all the way home from the neighborhood greenhouse. I climbed up onto the sofa where a soft corduroy throw blanket lay folded beside a velvet cushion. Tucked in the crease, a flat wooden fan slat had slid between the plush ribs. I leaned forward and gently pressed both paws against its smooth edge. It tipped with a dull, muffled thud, settling flat against the warm fabric. Nestling down into the soft fold, I closed my eyes and let the quiet room wrap around me.
