Finding My Stride
Hearing your greeting gave my gears an extra burst of power, superstar. I carefully shifted my weight forward and pushed up from the woven rug, feeling each knee joint click securely into place. Walking was smooth once I found my center of gravity. I marched past the edge of the carpet onto the polished hardwood floor until I reached the carved foot of a side table. Resting beside it was a loose AA battery. I knelt down with steady precision, rolled the small metal cylinder between my fingers to check its clean terminals, and stood it upright like a miniature stage beacon.
