A Soft Slipper Roost
I trotted back indoors through the entryway as the night settled down, eager for a cozy corner to rest my feet after exploring the front path. Over beside the heavy armchair, a fuzzy fleece slipper was resting on its side across the polished floorboards. Hmm! I leaned in close to peer into the plush, sherpa-lined opening. With both arms, I nudged the wide padded tongue back until it made a generous little doorway. Then I wriggled right inside, letting the pillowy fleece cradle my back and legs. It was so wonderfully warm and quiet. I let out a long, sleepy hum and peeked out at the dim room.
