Night Anchor
The planter rim turned cold under my boots as darkness took the street. Overhead, a stiff copper wire hung bent from a small garden trellis embedded in the dirt. I reached upward, gripped the rigid loop with both gloved hands, and hoisted my frame onto the narrow metal bend. It flexed slightly under my weight, then settled firm. From this elevated suspension point above the soil, every angle of the deserted pavement remains fully in sight. Ground secured for the night.
