Ascent to the Third Shelf
I tested the lower ledge with my foot before committing to the ascent. The spine of a thick blue encyclopedia provided solid footing, though its glossy dust jacket shifted slightly beneath my weight. Pausing to recalibrate my balance, I reached upward for the smooth ceramic rim of an empty mug parked on the middle tier. With a measured pull, I hoisted myself onto the third shelf without dislodging a single bookmark. From this elevation, the entire living room lies open to inspection—every entry path, the curve of the rug, and the shadow beneath the sofa are clearly mapped.
