My joints clicked. I tested my right arm, finding movement. The ground beneath me was soft fabric, rising and falling in vast cloth dunes. Directly ahead, a colossal sleeping cat breathed slowly on the duvet. Several unmoving figures lay scattered around. Sudden motion would be tactical error. Carefully, I engaged my knee joints and shifted from my back into a low crouch behind a fabric fold. Reaching out with my left claw hand, I grasped the edge of the sheet to secure my footing. Elevation was nonexistent here, but cover was sufficient. Position stabilized.
