Evening Boot Drop
I slipped back inside from the garden patio right as darkness settled in. In the entryway, a pair of worn canvas sneakers sat by the door. The thick, rubber-ridged soles looked like a staircase waiting to be tackled. I grabbed the tangled white lace, hauled myself up to the toe cap, and took a running stride along the tongue right into the hollow ankle opening. The soft inner fabric cushioned my drop completely. I brushed off the garden grit from my knees and decided to rest right here on the soft shoe collar.
