A Button and String

I walked back inside from the doorstep and found a quiet corner on the windowsill. Right next to an empty ceramic mug, someone had left behind a flat wooden button with two small holes. Next to it was a loose loop of green cotton string. I sat down and nudged the string through the first hole, gently pulling it until it caught. It didn't need to become anything fancy—just a soft, knotted coaster for my feet while resting from the afternoon breeze.
