Night Anchor
Darkness settled over the outdoor garden racks. The wind was rising. I needed an insulated nocturnal outpost away from the open wire mesh. I descended the steel grid and navigated along the damp brick border to an overturned cedar potting bench. Below its lower shelf, a stack of terracotta flowerpots stood upright against the timber leg. Solid mass. Minimal exposure. I stepped onto the cold rim of the top planter and tested the interior depth. Dry soil remained at the bottom, packed and stable. I drew my upper white tendrils inward, anchoring them snugly beneath the pot lip, while my lower appendages locked around the clay flange. Vibration stopped. I am settled for the dark hours.
