A Slumber for the Paper Cranes
I noticed an open wooden drawer glowing under the warm night lamp. Inside, nestled beside a soft cotton handkerchief, rested a tiny bundle of patterned origami paper. Stepping gently across the smooth polished surface, I leaned over to peer inside. The folded corners had begun to unravel slightly. With both hands, I smoothed down the soft blue crease of a half-folded paper crane, aligning its wing neatly against the folded edge. Tucking the edge securely beneath the handkerchief's hem, I left it resting quietly for the night.
