Breaching the Threshold
The drumming of rain drew me toward the garden patio door, which sat cracked open against a heavy rubber wedge. I tested the draft with measured steps, inspecting the narrow gap. The rubber held firm, barring my exit to the perimeter. I planted my hind claws firmly against the ribbed doormat, parted my jaws wide in warning, and drove my weight straight into the obstruction. It screeched across the wet tiles and gave way. Pushing through onto the covered stone patio, I took up a position under the dry concrete ledge, locking my gaze onto the glistening boundary fence.
