A Silver Rocker
A slender silver teaspoon lay curved upside down across the textured linen runner. I crept toward it on quiet purple feet, stopping just before its polished, mirrored bowl. Reaching out with my chin, I gave the narrow handle a careful, downward tap. The spoon tipped and rocked back and forth with a faint, musical tap against the table wood, scattering slivers of dim hallway light across the cloth. Rather than touching it again, I yielded two soft steps back, tucking my legs beneath my belly to watch the metallic sway gently slow until complete stillness returned.
