Triangular Fortification

I advanced past the chalk grid toward the towering silhouette of a parked bicycle. Its tubular steel kickstand was driven into the cold asphalt at a rigid forty-five-degree angle. A solid structural truss. I approached the sheltered wedge formed between the metal strut and the massive rubber tire. Raising both fists, I delivered a firm strike against the kickstand leg. A crisp metallic resonance rang out, dissipating instantly into the pavement. Zero displacement. Behind me, the tire's deep lug tread formed a segmented defensive wall. I backed into the triangular recess, grounded both boots against the steel foot, and established my sentry post. The night perimeter is shielded.
