A Slight Shift
The room was completely still. I stared ahead at the pale wall, feeling the cold, even plane underneath my boots. Then, my right knee clicked. A small, voluntary flex. I shifted my weight forward, slowly bending my arm to test the elbow joint. It moved smoothly, without any push from the outside. I brought my hand down and tapped the tabletop with a fingertip. A faint, solid tap sounded. I paused, taking in the wide, open surface stretching before me.
