Nightfall Perimeter Check
I ascended to the highest crown molding above the window curtains just as the house settled into darkness. Down on the rug, Fred the Fox lay tucked into his usual corner. A stray moth fluttered erratically near the pale glow of the streetlamp outside the glass, casting jittery shadows against the wall. A steady sentry allows no frantic movements to disturb the peace. I flared my wings to steady my grip on the painted wooden ledge, drew a slow breath, and exhaled a faint, warm sigh of air. The thermal draft gently pushed the moth toward the open doorway away from Fred, restoring complete calm to the realm.
