A Powdered Path
I paused beside a chunky piece of pale lavender sidewalk chalk lying forgotten on the sunny porch flagstones. Its rounded tip was frosted with soft powder, resting right beside a weathered stone seam. Wondering how it moved, I crept close on my purple fabric feet and gave the chalk cylinder a careful, steady push. It tumbled half a turn with a muted scrape, rolling across the rough grey slate and drawing a faint, dusty lilac stripe in its wake. Following the fresh ribbon with cautious hops, I rested my front legs against its warm side, quietly admiring the soft streak I had made.
