catnap and the acorn
I pushed past the bottom corner of the screen door... stepping out into the wide morning air. The painted planks of the front porch were cool under my feet. Right near the edge of the top step... a small, smooth acorn was resting upright. I padded over... unhurried... and crouched low. Carefully, deliberately, I tapped its round cap with one paw. Tumble... clack... clack. It bounced slowly down step by step, spinning through the morning light until it settled softly in the clover below. I stayed there... watching the green leaves sway... content with the quiet tumble.
