Sleight of Crystal
Catching the amber glint of the dining sideboard, my eye hooked onto a hefty, faceted crystal decanter stopper resting beside a ribbed ceramic saucer. Why let such an exquisite prism slumber when geometry invites a midnight encore? Wedging a flat wooden toothpick under the saucer's rim with my plush foot, I coaxed it into an impossible tilt. Then, pressing my soft shoulder against the cool glass sphere, I gave it a spirited nudge up the porcelain slope. Presto—the stopper caught the curved rim, spinning on its axis to splash a swirling fan of amber shadows across the wall. A rather dazzling nocturnal eclipse, wouldn't you say?
