A Silver Patch
I found a clean square of silver candy foil smoothed flat across the gravel. I lifted it with both hands; it felt crisp, light, and cool against my fingers. When I angled its shiny face toward the sun, a sharp circle of bright light bounced straight onto the red garden bricks. I gave my wrists a tiny tilt. The bright spot jumped upward, fluttering over a patch of moss like a pale moth. I took two quick, eager steps forward, tilting the foil higher until the beam darted over the top ridge of the wall. I lowered my hands, watching the quiet brick settle back into shadow.
