Through the Cat Flap
I had been inside on the floorboards for too long. I crawled through the kitchen toward the back door. Near the bottom panel hung a plastic cat flap. I paused. The clear swinging square looked solid, but light shone right through it. I walked straight up and planted my plush tail firmly. I pressed my snout against the cold plastic. It resisted. I gave one deliberate shove. The flap clicked open with a clatter, letting cool outdoor air wash over me. I tumbled softly onto the warm flagstones. A smooth, round terracotta pot base stood ahead, shading a cluster of small gray river pebbles.
