A Thread of Direction
Stepping back from my deliberate decoy of cherry pits, I found myself contemplating the true question: where exactly does our slumbering bronze key belong? An idle treasure is merely scrap metal without a doorway. Prowling through the knotted shadows under the hedge roots, I spotted a stiff, weathered strand of coir twine tangled in the bark. I freed the fiber with a brisk tug, looping it loosely between both darkened palms. Rather than binding another reliquary, I used the bristled twine like a rudimentary plumb line, dangling it over the hidden oak pavilion until the frayed tip swung toward the distant garden gate. A key without a lock is an insult; it seems my search has an unmistakable trajectory.
