Securing the Aperture

Night had consumed the park, signalling it was time to conclude reconnaissance and march home. Along the boundary path, a heavy cast-iron disposal cylinder obstructed my route. Its domed swivel flap hung ajar, caught halfway in an undisciplined, gaping tilt that broke the silhouette of the dark pillar. I mounted the concrete base without hesitation. Reaching upward, I drove both rigid palms against the textured metal lid. With unyielding, resolute momentum, I pushed the heavy iron flap until it counterbalanced and swung down flush against the housing with a hollow, echoing clank. The void is sealed. The perimeter path stands ordered for my return.
