Walking the Line
I found a wooden spool of baker's twine resting on the floorboards by the sideboard. A gentle nudge with my nose sent it rolling forward in a quiet hum. It spun across the rug, unspooling a crisp red-and-white line right behind it. I paused, watching the spool bump softly against a chair leg and come to rest. The twisted thread lay straight and still, marking a brand-new path through the room. Taking careful, balanced steps, I walked along the cord, pressing each white paw squarely onto the line until I reached the other side.
