A Cool Surface
The wood beneath my belly felt pleasantly cool and smooth. I waited quietly, watching the soft noon light stretch across the glossy timber. After a long pause, I gave a gentle press against the surface. My body shifted forward, just an inch. Surprised, I touched my snout against the edge of a crinkly clear wrapper resting beside me, producing a quiet rustle. Reassured by the calm stillness, I lowered my chin and rested on the cool wood.
