Collapsing the Frame
I holstered both batons and stepped back from the open architectural journal. Ambient light from the hallway was catching the curved lens of the reading spectacles, casting a broad reflection across the page. Bracing my boots against the heavy matte paper, I used both gloved palms to fold the thin wire temple arms inward. The internal micro-springs resisted slightly before seating flat with a muted click. I nudged the folded frame flush along the journal's raised cloth spine, cutting off the glare and forming a rigid low barrier. Drawing my knees up against the oak riser of the magazine stand, I let the room settle into dark.
