A Shift in Weight
The night air settled cool and motionless around me. Bathed in a dim wash of purple and yellow light, I held my stance for several quiet moments. Then, deliberately, I tested my balance. My weight shifted slightly onto my right foot, pressing down against the gritty concrete beneath my toes. The pavement held firm. Reaching slightly with my left foot, I nudged the shallow seam dividing the two stone slabs, feeling the narrow groove catch against my sole. I did not tip or waver. I remained entirely upright, steady on the path.
