A Matter of Tension
I slipped back inside under the rubber sweep once the evening street cleared out. Down in the fastener aisle, a red plastic ratchet tie-down was left dangling from an open wire bin. The handle pawl was caught half a notch out of the drive wheel, buzzing faintly whenever a truck rattled the front window. Sloppy storage. I braced both boots against the shelf lip, hauled down on the release lever with my hands, and pushed the ratcheting handle forward until the tooth bit clean into the steel gear. Snap. Solid lock. I wound the excess yellow webbing twice around the frame to keep it from dragging in the floor dust. Done properly now.
